Where the Map Begins

A note from the Recorder

We keep two kinds of record here. One is the field notebook, the long entries on customs and creatures and the places they belong to. The other, until now, did not exist. We have started it this week.

Where the Map Begins

Where the Map Begins is a blog for younger readers. Same archive, same old and wild and weird corners of the world, but told the way you might tell them to a child on a long car journey, or at the point in the evening when the room has gone quiet and someone asks for one more story. Shorter tales. Simpler maps. No less true.

We did not build this because the old stories needed softening. Children have always been the first audience for folklore, long before societies like ours got around to writing it down. We are only catching up to that fact, and giving it a proper shelf.

The first entries are up now, and more will follow at the same unhurried pace as everything else we publish. Consider it a second door into the same house.
