Members, Not Customers

A note from the Recorder

We don't use the word "customer" here, and it isn't a marketing trick. A customer buys a thing and moves on. A member keeps something — a badge, a shirt, a story — and carries it forward, the way membership has always worked in societies built on record-keeping rather than transactions.

This matters more than it sounds. Every design in the archive exists because someone, somewhere, thought a piece of folklore was worth writing down before it was lost. We're doing the same work in cloth. When you wear one of our findings, you aren't displaying a purchase — you're keeping a small piece of the record moving.

So: welcome. Not to a shop. To the Society.
